| In Ontario, only four breeding farms have been in business since before the Ontario Sires Stakes program began: Armstrong Bros, Killean Acres, Seelster Farms and Mac Lilley Farms. Through the ups and downs of the racing business, these farms have hung in there. |

Mac and Ann Lilley bought their first stallion, ZIP TAR p,T1:59.2 ($167,580) at a race in New York in 1973. ZIP TAR had a long and fruitful career as a stallion siring 233 race winners who earned over $6 million! In the Lilley horse cemetary lie super sires ZIP TAR (details above); Canadian Hall of Famer SUPER WAVE p,1:57f ($481,370) whos progeny earned over $12 million; his full brother SPRINGFIELD p,1:57.3q ($402,746), another super successful sire of 268 race winners; and FRANZ HANOVER p,1:52 ($371,656) - whos progeny earned over $17 million! These are just a few of the many great sires that have passed through the Mac Lilley Farm gates. Mac Lilley Farms is a family-run operation. The person feeding, breeding, or training the horses is often the same person who answers the phone. For the past several years Mac and Ann have taken two year olds to train in Hawkinsville, Georgia. This year they will be operators of the Lawrence L. Bennett Harness Horse Training Facility. "We have found the weather super nice, the track great for conditioning our horses and the facility excellent to work from. The people of Hawkinsville are very courteous, helpful, and extremely warm and welcoming." - Mac & Ann Lilley While they are away, Jeff and Ruleen, along with their sons Alex and Gerald, (bottom left) look after the home farm. Alex and Gerald will be the third generation horse people on Mac Lilley Farms. The Lilleys currently have a broodmare band of 30 outstanding ladies. The days are long, the nights more often than not, even longer, but like the majority of "horsepeople" the Lilleys love what they do and Mac Lilley Farms will be around for many more years. |
